I don’t know where to begin, with so many countries to choose from (i.e. Philippines, Hong-Kong, Korea, etc). It’s like having a small bowl and stand in front of a huge buffet full of delicious goodies. Oh well, here are some of them:

Rikki O aka The Story of Ricky (1991) **** Hong Kong

Dir: Ngai Choi Lam. Stars: Siu-Wong Fan, Mei Sheng Fan and Ka-Kui Ho

Story: This movie is so over the top makes you wonder what type of drugs was the director on. Rikky O must have been a fun project to work. It’s amazing how the actors don’t laugh on the dramatic moments that look so funny. The movie tells story of Rikky who goes ape shit after his girlfriend is kidnapped, raped and killed by gangsters. How does he gets his revenge? He goes to a futuristic maximum-security jail to find the murders and kill them. Rikky O is full of fun, surreal and gore moments. One of my favorites is when in one fight, Rikky’s tendons are exposed and with the good hand ties a knot, fix it and proceeds to kick but. (Available on netfilx.com)

Trivia: The first Hong Kong movie to receive a “Category III” rating for violence.

Scene from movie:

Old Boy (2003) South **** Korea

Dir: Chan-wook Park Stars: Min-sik Choi, Ji-tae Yu and Hye-jeong Kang

A man without warning or reason was imprisoned for 15 years. Once released, he has five days to find his capture. Violent, gritty and mesmerizing. If you haven’t see it, rent it today, before Spike Lee’s version hits the theaters. (Available on netfilx.com)

Trivia: Chan-wook Park won a Grand Prize of the Jury at the Cannes Festival.

Trailer:

Battle Royale (2000) *** ½ Japan

Dir: Kinji Fukasaku Stars: Tatsuya Fujiwara, Aki Maeda and Tarô Yamamoto

Story: In the future, the Japanese government captures a class of ninth-grade trouble students and forces them to kill each other under the revolutionary “Battle Royale” act. Sounds familiar? Maybe because it’s similar to another movie: The Hunger Games. But the Japanese makes the American look movie one, like kindergarten games. As a matter of fact, the film began its first theatrical run in North America on December 24, 2011, 11 years after its Japanese theatrical release. (Available on netfilx.com)
