Words cannot describe how mesmerized I was after watching “Gravity.” It is a stunning, hypnotic, and emotional experience from its first frame, with a new, clean, and monochromatic Warner Brothers logo that dissolves to a mega shot of outer space. The 3D is so realistic; you almost feel you are floating there, witnessing the beauty of space and the drama of the film. I can even dare to say, I wanted to hear “The Blue Danube” or “Also Spach Zarathrustra.”

As the camera glides through a space station, it introduces the movie’s main and only characters: Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney). Quickly, we learned their stories. Dr. Stone is the helpless rookie, and Kowalski is kind of a salty sailor but charming. Everyone is happy because it is their last day on their space mission, and it’s the last day of Kowalski’s career, as he is due to retire. However, life throws them a curve ball or, literally, debris of a Russian satellite. These destroy their space station, leaving Sandra Bullock and George Clooney the sole survivors, and they have 90 minutes to find a way home or die. 

In my book, this is Sandra Bullock’s best film of her career. I was never too keen on her “Blind Side” performance. She carries the drama of the film with such a tour de force that is just impressive. Dr. Ryan Stone reminds me of a young Lt. Ripley who, for the second half of Alien, was so resoursive and had such a survival spirit.  I don’t know if Alfonso Cuarón made it intentional, but when Sandra Bullock changes space suits, it’s like the metamorphosis of a timid astronaut to a brave yet vulnerable soul.

Technologically speaking, “Gravity” is a giant leap for mind kind. Five-time Oscar nominee cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and visual effects supervisor Tim Webber created a poem in space, pretty close to the jaw-dropping photography of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The huge difference is the camera moves so freely in space; it had no boundaries and, as a result, made the audience a witness like never before.

I predict that “Gravity” will win an Oscar for Alfonso Cuarón, Emmanuel Lubezki, Tim Webber, and, of course, Sandra Bullock.

You know it; go ahead and see Gravity today in IMAX 3D! This is how 3D is done, minimalistic and pumping it every now and then. It should underline the story, not be the story.

The Oscar winning actress  faces a unique challenge everytime she accepts a role for a film, but then she said yes to play Dr. Ryan Stone for ‘Gravity‘ she was in for a big surprise. Sandra plays the part of a medical engineer, who on her first shuttle mission, has an accident. Debris from a satellite destroys her station and leaves her drifting in the middle of the space. Her colleague Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) is the only one who can help. In order to create this perception of emptiness, director Alfonso Cuarón, invited a intricate machine. A small box where Sandra had to be inside for hours surrounded by dozens of tracking lights. Talk about a challenge!

Warner Brothers Pictures released ‘Gravity‘ first TV spot. The science fiction thriller directed and co-written by Alsonso Cuarón (his son Joás als wrote), tells the story of a medical engineer (Sandra Bullock) and an astronaut (George Clooney) who work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space. Gravity is set to open the 70th Venice International Film Festival in August 2013.

Lost in Space by Sandra Bullock

I predict Gravity will be this year’s surprise hit, box-office and critic alike. When I mention if audiences should bring barf bags, is not because it is going to be a bad movie, but because the realism of the film. Alfonso Cuarón and Emmanuel Lubezki used new and impressive technology. Sandra Bullock was mostly inside a 9×9 glass cage spinning to create the drifting look. Finally, Lubezki will win a much deserved Oscar.

The movie is as mysterious as the space itself. I heard through friends who work in the movie business Alfonso Cuarón (director) and Emmanuel Lubezki (DP) created stunning SFX. Much like like 2001: A Space Odessy, The Fly and Inception, giant sets were built to create an illusion of no gravity and walking on walls. I am very excited about this project starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. I wonder if there if there is a villain and if Sandra will sing “Daisy Bell”

With all the hype Gravity has been getting, Cuarón has something to smile about.

Warner Brother has moved the release date of Alfonso Cuarón mega science fiction film. It was going to be released on November 2013, close to Thanksgiving where there is a very competitive market due the Holiday. So, what movies will open on October 4? Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill, Dream Work Pictures’ The Delivery Man (Vince Vaughn) and Paranoia (Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford). Definetaly, that weekend is going to be a very interesting one. All three films look interesting on paper, but Gravity is my first choice. Allow me to explain what the story is about. (source: movieweb) Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. I also like to add Gravity has ground breaking special SFX and photography so the viewers feel both actors are floating in space throughout the movie. It looks like Alfonso C. will be this century’s S. Kubrick!

Guillermo del Toro is getting more creative freedom after Pacific Rim‘s very positive test screenings.

Alfonso Cuarón joins the 70mm club

As a matter of fact, it is literally huge. If you love the ultimate old-school sci-fi experience, you are going to be supremely happy. Today the studio announced they will present Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim and Alfonso Cuarón Gravity in glorious 70MM and IMAX. I am so happy because two Mexican directors are getting more successful in Hollywood; and movie studios are letting directors have more artistic freedom.

Den Fellman head of WB domestic distribution said: “Together with IMAX and our exhibitor partners, we have built a unique, incremental distribution platform over the last ten years. We are excited to continue this tradition and offer these films to audiences in the most premium of moviegoing experiences.”*

I just have to say one thing: “¡en hora buena Warner Brothers!” The days of 2001 Space Odyssey are back. I bet at least one of these two is going to be projected at the Cinerama Dome.
