What does a studio and a filmmaker do after producing the most successful movie in film history, just imagine Avatar grossed $2.8 million worldwide. As well know, they did not rush to do it, after all the film was released in 2009. Today, Deadline.com confirmed Fox will produce Avatar 2, 3 and 4. Yes! Three sequels and they will be shot at the same time, but released in 2016, 2017, and 2018 respectably. Josh Friedman (Sarah Connor Chronicles) will write Avatar 2, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Jurassic Park IV) will be writing Avatar 3 and Shane Salerno (Alien vs. Predator Requiem) will be writing Avatar 4.

Cameron added: 

“Building upon the world we created with Avatar has been a rare and incredibly rewarding experience. In writing the new films, I’ve come to realize that Avatar’s world, story and characters have become even richer than I anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen. And to help me continue to expand this universe, I’m pleased to bring aboard Amanda, Rick, Shane and Josh — all writers I’ve long admired –¬ to join me in completing the films screenplays.”

And Jim Gianopulos, 20th Century Fox CEO, added:

“We at the studio have no higher priority, and can feel no greater joy, than enabling Jim to continue and expand his vision of the world of Avatar. The growing breadth and scale of Jim Cameron’s plans for his magnificent fantasy worlds continue to amaze us.”

Deadline also mentioned the cost of the sequels will be close to $1billion dollars. Just imagine the new 3D and CGI technology we are going to experience. The folks at Industrial Light & Magic and Weta Digital must be happy. Just imagine what lies in the upcoming summer with Avatar 2, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Star Wars: Episode 7, The Amazing Spider Man 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, Fury Road, Batman vs. Superman, and Sex on the City 3 (just kidding).

Michael Rooker, the talented actor known for playing memorable bad guys (The Walking Dead, Henry: A Portrait of a Serial Killer, Cliffhanger) will play the role of one of “Yondu”, a founder member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. He joins Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Damion Poitier. The film is directed by James Gunn and hits theatres August, 2014.

Chris Pratt will now be fighting terrorists from another galaxy.

James Dunn has picked Chris Pratt as the lead role for the epic Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy. You might know him for such films as Zero Dark Thirty or Moneyball or the TV show Parks and Recreation. This is one intriguing choice. He clearly can portray a dark or funny side. No news regarding who will play the rest of “The Guardians”. What is his role and what does he do? He will play Quills or Star-Lord; the leader of group of alien superheroes who team to protect the solar system from an evil alien race. The good guys are from the future, and another dimension.
