Variety just released the following interesting information regarding the Batman’s new personality: 

The new Dark Knight won’t be bright and light.

“According to Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara. The exec offered the character description Thursday at an investor gathering, officially titled the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference. Affleck was announced as the studio’s selection for Batman opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman character in the untitled “Man of Steel” sequel, due out in 2015. Though the choice of Affleck has troubled some Batman fans, Tsujihara said he was “perfect” for the film that Zack Snyder is directing. “We think it’s going to be huge,” he added. The exec said that the studio “could not be happier” about the performance of “Man of Steel,” which has grossed $660 million in worldwide box office. “We think it’s the perfect springboard for Batman and Superman,” he added, Tsujihara also indicated that there will be “a lot of announcements” coming out the DC Comics unit of Warner Bros., noting that the Warner Bros. has three DC-based animated TV shows.”

Well this news will even make Michael Moore happy. Detroit who officially filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy on July 18, 2013, now is officially Gotham City. Of course, this means jobs, jobs and more jobs. According to the The Hollywood Reporter the production is expected to hire 406 Michigan workers, with a full-time equivalent of 426 jobs, plus an additional 6,000 man-days of extra work. The production is estimated to use 500 local Michigan vendors and spend $5.1 million on hotels. Not too shabby, eh? Zack Snyder address this matter as follows:

“Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie. . Detroit and the entire state of Michigan have been fantastic collaborators, and we are looking forward to working together on this film.”

Will this news lessen the fact Ben Affleck is Batman? I don’t think so. But, God knows Detroit needs the help.

The Oscar^®-winning star joins Henry Cavill in the first ever onscreen match-up of DC Comics’ most iconic characters.

BURBANK, CA, August 22, 2013 – Ending weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne.  Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in “Man of Steel.”  The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The studio has slated the film to open worldwide on July 17, 2015.

Last month’s surprise announcement of the new movie featuring both Superman and Batman created a wave of excitement and immediately fueled discussion and debate—among fans as well as in the media—about who would put on the cape and cowl of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego.

Snyder successfully re-imagined the origin of Clark Kent/Superman in the worldwide blockbuster “Man of Steel,” which has earned more than $650 million worldwide to date, and climbing.  The director will now create an original vision of Batman and his world for the film that brings the two DC Comics icons together. 

 Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise the role of Superman/Clark Kent.  The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

 In the announcement, Silverman stated, “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some.  His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

Snyder also expressed his excitement about the casting of Affleck, noting, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman.  He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne.  I can’t wait to work with him.”

Kroll added, “We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.’ remarkable legacy with the character of Batman.  He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes.”

Affleck recently starred in the Academy Award^®-winning Best Picture “Argo,” which he also directed and produced, earning acclaim and a BAFTA Award nomination for his performance in the film, as well as a number of directing honors.  In 2010, he starred in and directed the hit crime thriller “The Town.”  His recent acting work also includes “The Company Men,” “State of Play,” and “Hollywoodland,” for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Earlier in his career, Affleck starred in and co-wrote (with Matt Damon) “Good Will Hunting,” for which he won an Oscar^® for Best Original Screenplay. 

The new Super Hero film is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder.  Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers. Production is expected to begin in 2014.

The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, and Batman characters created by Bob Kane, published by DC Entertainment.

Will he appear in a 4th Batman movie?

According to digitaljournal.com the Dark Knight might be wearing his cowl again to fight crime, this time with Superman. Sources close to Legendary Pictures mentioned he  almost has no choice  because he will be offered a $50 million check.

Henry Cavill will probably reprise his role, and definitely fans want Bale. Of course, studios were concerned if audiences were going to accept Andrew Garfield instead of  Tobey Maguire, and nothing happened.

But for the Dark Knight, it is different. Author Vince Russell (Beyond Batman: The Unauthorized True Story of Christian Bale and His Dark Knight) mentioned this week:

“As the bat signal still glimmers with fervor above Bale’s Hollywood marquee, Christian Bale’s experience as the Batman of our generation is about to prove more inescapable than he expected.” 

 And since the Iron Man character has not  limited Robert Downey Jr options he might do it. This Russell mentioned:

“Although Downey has appeared as Tony Stark in four movies in less than a decade, he’s hardly typecast as Iron Man,” Russell says, “Downey has balanced his action film escapades with other projects that have harnessed his talents and earned critical acclaim in the process. If Bale follows a similar formula, his box office glory days may not be behind him – a reality that other men who have donned the black cape weren’t so fortunate to experience.”

Still I have high hopes Bruce Wayne packs his bags, gets in his Bat to Gotham City.  If not, Superman can give him a lift.

Mark Stron

Ever since the announcement of the Batman and Superman movie at Comic Con; rumors have dropped Mark Strong could be the next Lex Luthor. Today they asked him about this matter, and he replied:

“All I can say is… watch this space.”

Strong could be an excellent choice, not because he has experience in superhero films (‘Kick Ass’ and ‘Green Lantern’) but because he is a good stage and screen actor. Just rent ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’, ‘RocknRolla’ and, ‘Sunshine’. Any thoughts or recommendations?
