The  Star Wars: Episode VII cast and crew list is piling up and so far is amazing ! Disney first announced J.J. Abrams will direct. Later  Harrison Ford will reprise his Han Solo role. Today, we have another addition to the cast: Carrie Fisher, as of course, Princess (or Queen?) Leia.

Here is what she said on an interview she held with Palm Beach Illustrated:

PBI: Disney is going to continue the Star Wars saga, producing movies set to hit theaters starting in 2015. Can you confirm whether you’ll reprise the role of Princess Leia?

CF: Yes.

PBI: What do you think Princess Leia is like today?

CF: Elderly. she is in an intergalactic old folks’ home [laughs]. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.

I wonder who is next, I don’t care so much for a Mark Hamill return, I want Boba Fett!

Victor Garcia of Latino-review.com announced on Fox Latino today Harrison Ford will be in the new series.  I wonder, what is going to be the time line within the Star Wars Universe? In the original Star Wars movie, he was 36 years-old. Now he is 71. Can he still fly the Millennium Falcon?

The Star Wars news never seems to stop. A week ago we learned J.J. Abrahams will direct the first one. Yesterday, the Walt Disney Company announced their plans two produce two spin-off movies with the coolest Star Wars characters: Han Solo and Bobba Fett (feel free to make a Jar Jar Binks joke).

According to an article in Entertainment Weekly “ the Han Solo story would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars (now known as A New Hope)”. This means the movie will require another young actor for the lead. Any suggestions? Maybe Sam Riley (Control) or James Franco.

The magazine also mentioned “The Bobba Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Jedi, where the bounty hunter was last seen plunging unceremoniously into a Sarlacc Pit”.  I would love to see Dane DeHaan (Chronicle), but he could be associated with The Amazing Spiderman 2. Will the studio be brave enough to hire a star and never reveal the face on screen?

Without any doubt Disney took the Lucasfilm acquisition seriously. Star Wars fans and non Star Wars-fans should be happy.

 After rumors and denials of who will direct the next Star Wars movie, it looks like it will be a sci-fi genius J. J Abrahams. The Wrapp announced a couple of minutes ago the Star Trek and Super 8 director is on board. I think is an excellent decision. He is an excellent storyteller, has a passionate vision and for example, he did a terrific Star Trek reboot. I wonder if he will hire Roberto Orci & Alex Kutzman (Mission Impossible III, Star Trek, Alias) to work on the screenplay. However, let’s not celebrate yet. Reached by The Wrap, Lynne Hale, spokeswoman for Lucasfilm, declined to comment immediately. Neither CAA, which represents Abrahams, nor Bad Robot immediately responded to requests for comment.

So with Guillermo del Toro, he is the second talented director to just say: “no thank you, but it was an honor”. I wonder why? A big pressure to take up the mega baton? Work with Disney? Busy schedules? I also wonder what Joss Whedon is thinking.

This is the latest: Lawrence Kasdan the man responsible for writing Raiders of the Lost Ark and co-writing The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi will helm Star Wars: Episode 8. I think this is a very good choice, hopefully he does not bring Ewoks back.

The Walt Disney Company purchased Lucasfilm Ltd. from George Lucas for $4.05 billion in cash and stock. The good news for Star Wars fans is Disney has plans to produce Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015.  Kathleen Kennedy, current Lucasfilm co-chairperson will become the company producer and executive producer for the Episode VII. Lucas, should be extremely happy. He created one of the most financially and memorable movie franchise in Hollywood history. Here is what he had to say:

“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see ‘Star Wars’ passed from one generation to the next…it’s now time for me to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that ‘Star Wars’ could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.” (source: variety.com).

Disney has definitely two mega movies for the next years: Avengers 2 and Episode VII.
