 J. R. R. Tolkien fans have another reason for being merry this Holiday season, the release of ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’. Directed by Peter Jackson, and written by Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro and Philippa Boyens. The plot is as follows: after successfully crossing over (and under) the Misty Mountains, Thorin (Richard Armitage) and company must seek aid from a powerful stranger before taking on the dangers of Mirkwood Forest–without their Wizard. If they reach the human settlement of Lake-town it will be time for the hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) to fulfill his contract with the dwarves. The party must complete the journey to Lonely Mountain and burglar Baggins must seek out the Secret Door that will give them access to the hoard of the dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch). Hopefully Warner Brothers plan to release a 5-movie marathon, so all fans can experience the magic and excitement of Tolkien’s and Jackson’s vision.

Attention all Hobbit fans! Warner Brothers, MGM and New Line Cinema have released the much anticipated trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Last time we watched Bilbo & friends they were on their way to get their gold back from the Dragon Smaug. On the very last frame, we saw the beast’s eyes open ready for battle.

The movie is directed by Peter Jackson and written by Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro, Frank Walsh and Philippa Boyens. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Smaug / The Necromancer), Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins), Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins) and Andy Serkis (Gollum).
